Caring for your area rug

The most important thing a homeowner can do to maintain their area rug is to vacuum it on a regular basis.  If its a reversible rug you should vacuum both sides. Removing dirt and grime goes a long way in keeping your rug from wearing out prematurely. Avoid vacuuming the fringe on the perimeterThe-Best-Vacuum-With-Fur-Ruger of a rug as it does not hold up well to a vacuum.

If you have pets you should manually brush out Pet hair with a stuff brush going in the direction of the nap. Conventional homeowner vacuums will rarely remove all the hair.

Rotate your rugs if possible so foot traffic and sun from nearby windows is distributed to different locations around the rug.

If your rug is small, take it outside and shake it or beat it vigorously with a blunt object to remove dirt and grit.

Unless its an inexpensive area rug, avoid using normal carpet cleaning methods as the dyes can fade or cross bleed. When in doubt leave this to a professional. If you have any questions feel free to contact one of our specialist at 515-262-9229.
